Day passes are counted for every day of the trip and usually include calls and texts on your Australian number as well as data. Travel eSIMs are data only: the eSIM is the cheapest single plan we list that lasts the trip and holds your data, and unlimited plans always qualify.

How it works

What the calculator assumes

  • A day pass is charged on every day of the trip. Carriers usually charge only on days you use your phone abroad, so a trip with phone-free days costs less.
  • The eSIM is the cheapest single plan we list that lasts at least the whole trip and holds your total data.
  • A day pass usually covers calls and texts on your Australian number as well as data; a travel eSIM covers data only. If you need to call or text from your Australian number, weigh that up. See keeping your Australian number to use an eSIM without starting a day pass by accident.
  • Carrier prices come from each carrier's roaming page and are dated. They were checked 31 Oct 2026.
